Local music
Chris and I felt like going out on the town last night and ended up at Napper Tandy's. For those who don't know it's a neat little Irish Pub type place located in the Glenwood South / Powerhouse District in Raleigh. I swear I have been there before but can't really place as to who I was there with or really when. But, still a very nice little bar, sorta crowded. We got some beers and sat down and watched the end of the Carolina Hurricanes game (another loss).
The big event for the night at Napper Tandy's was a local band (not going to mention a name so I am not just bashing them) beginning to play on stage sometime after 10. Now to begin with they of course had the usual "mic checks" which I always laugh a little at because if you went back in time to real mic checks you would see people checking mics by number... not just saying numbers, the mics would actually be numbered going into your sound board and by saying the specific mic number it gave the operator something to go off (i.e. saying "Check 3, check 3" would make sure mic 3 was live and up). Plus when you do mic checks always make sure to do it in the type of voice you sing with, not just randomly throwing out "Check 1, 2, check, check, check with as many voices as you can think of and equally as many styles.
Now this next part is not me bashing local musicians, in fact I love local artists and unsigned artists. But, the band playing was under the impression that if you can't play well, play it loud. With such a small space that Napper Tandy's is this band was obnoxiously loud. It would be nice if you could understand words in songs without being drowned out totaly by the noice effect of overly loud instruments. Something they might need to look into next time.
Tonight, I am happy to say, is Bain Mattox performing at The Pour House down in Raleigh. Bain is a wonderful unsigned artist who surprises me with the band's sound and lyrics. If you have free time tonight they start to perform at 11 tonight. I highly recommend Bain and his group. Someone needs to sign them to a record contract cause it's just music that needs to be out there.
Alrighty, I am going to take off now. Hope all is well with yall. Take care!
