Sad times

I started thinking the other day about places down at the coast that I remember my family taking for those lovely summer vacations, you know, when kids were actually off a good amount from school for the summer. This was in part triggered by the closing of The Pavillion down in Myrtle Beach, somewhere I like many east coasters enjoyed for college spring break. But now back to my even younger days.

One of the first places I remember going is Place at the Beach III. The memory of this place that stands out most is one year we cut our vacation short by one day due to a hurricane coming in. I remember stopping the old truck out in front of the office to drop the keys off and a certian song playing on the radio. Now if I hear it I immediatly think back to that night. The hurricane didn't do too much to the place but it did ruin the water slide to the pool there. However, now that I looked at the website to Place at the Beach III, they have rebuilt it.

Another place we stayed, and many times at that, was Summer Winds. Great little place and real close to several piers (my next discussion) and a place named Jungle Golf. Across the street from the condo was a little gift store that I can still remember looking at the hermit crabs and all at. Jungle Golf was this great putt-putt place that had rides, bumper boats (one group for small kids and a very nice set-up for teens and adults), a jungle themed putt-putt course and a small theatre area that I remember a magician being at one time and my oldest sister actually getting called up on stage. I was trying to see what the place is like now and came across a few news articles and sites about it. The theatre was turned into an arcade. But, after looking more into it... Junglegolf is no more, bull dozed to make way for several condos and other houses. It's rather sad to think there is no more Junglegolf, a place I looked forward to as a small kid every summer.

Now something that really get me is the destruction of many of the piers on the NC coast. My dad would always go out atleast one night fishing off a pier and not to mention the many times I walked the old wood planks at night just for the sites. Unfortunatly, many of these are dissappearing due to insurance costs, the cost of land (developers love to take a pier, tear it down and then slap up a hotel or houses), and destruction due to hurricanes that drives the price of insurrance up even more. One most notable pier was the Iron Steamer Pier. An older steam ship sank just past the breakers in the early 1900 and the pier was built close to where on a really low tide you could see part of it. The pier has now since been torn down, just like Triple S, Sportsman, Indian Beach and Emerald Isle Beach. There have been talks by some to help out the piers, since they do help the tourist draw and NC did at one time have 1 more pier in total above all of Florida's, even though Florida's coast is 1350 square miles compared to NC's 301. But, like most things, this was not a bill supported by big business or a fancy lobbeyest with lots of money.

It's just sad to see places like this go, espescially knowing kids today won't have such great memories that could have been made at the wonderful sites.

Bistro blowout!

Tonight was one of those very interesting nights where you just have to look around and go, "Wow, did that just really happen?" But before I get to that I will just say that the rest of the night Chris and I spend going over some of the actor interest cards that were sent in to us for some upcoming scenes that really only call for day players. I think we have a pretty good selection picked out, but, if you sent in an interest email to us don't fear that we are blowing you off. Daily Productions will have more projects after this so we are keeping all the interest forms so we can always call upon you. Plus, maybe something we have set up does not work out and we need to bring in another actor we will have people to call upon.

Now to what happened tonight. Chris went shopping for a birthday present for his mom and I tagged along because I wanted to try a new restruant up the street. After picking up a present, Chris and I started walking around Poyner Place behind Triangle Town Center and came upon a very new restruant. I was looking in the windows and there were a few people in there dressed very nicely. When we started getting to the corner of the building a veyr nice fella came up and greeted Chris and I, speaking of how we should pop into the place and have a look around even though it was a privette party type and they do not open until Saturday, July 29. We were both a little taken aback at first, espcially since we were both in shorts and t-shirts (me wearing a very nice Daily Productions t-shirt) and the people inside were dressed up. But we proceeded in and were asked what we were going to drink.

The gentleman that invited us in turned out to be Mikey Karp, the proprietor of the establishment. He basically gave us some free Yuenglings and tried out some appetizers. As we were tasting and sitting around Mikey was telling us how in the morning they serve breakfest, and might I add some very delicious sounding stuff, then at 4 the place turns into a restruant where if you want Full Service you can get it plus one menu, and then if you want to help yourself you basically have another menu to order from. A very novel idea that I am sure will work out very well with them.

The place was just an awesome location. The decor inside was very nice, classic lines with some leather seats in the coffee bar area, high bar stools in the bar/lounge area, and very nice tableclothed tables all around. The lighting really helped accent the place nicely. (again... pulling from my design and archetecture days) Plus I will say the cooks food was just AMAZING and the wait staff was cute and polite.

With the hospitality that was shown to both Chris and I it is only fair I let everyone else know about this place and hopefully get them some good customers when they open. The information for the Bakehouse Bistro is below. Please feel free to give them some business and I am sure you will be happy with your experience there!

This is located behind Triangle Town Center and is in the area with a nice little pond and fountain.

** Mikey nor anyone else at the Bakehouse Bistro knew Chris and I are working on an independent film so they were genuinly great to us.

Horniblow's Tavern shoot

*Yawn* It was a very long day today. Started out very early getting things out the door and ready for the shoot over at Horniblow's Tavern. Got there and got all set up in quite a shorta amount of time. It's always nice when you have some room to move around and areas where you can sorta stage equipment your not using at a certian time while you use other equipment. I was a little disappointed that some of the people that emailed in an interest to be an extra did not show up. It is a little disheartning to know a few people out there said they would come be an extra and them seeming bailed on it. But thats ok. The people we did have were awesome today! Yall did a great job and it was fun meeting you all and it was just a pleasure to have yall around. I hope you all enjoy the mugs and/or pint glasses we gave yall. Just a small way of thanking you for enduring all the apple juice and sweet tea. But, the bagels and other snacks were quite delish. I know we have a good amount left so I know what my breakfest is going to be for a little bit.

On to more things now. It looks like Chris and I have found a great little office area to use for various office scenes we have to shoot. The contact we have there is really nice and helpful and seems to be very excited about trying to help us in anyway he can, including trying to get with former clients about other spaces to use. The building the offices are in is a really beautiful building and I really love the archetecture of it all. My old eng/design days there. But that is looking really nicely.

Still having troubles with finding a suitable restruant that we can use. Needing an outdoor patio/deck type area to shoot in. But, we are still working hard on it and have some ideas if we can't excatly find what we need.

Welp, I think I should be wrapping this thing up. Take care of yourselves and have a good one!

PS: Mudcats lost tonight in extra innings. Great group of guys on the team, better than what their record reflects right now. Two people I wish the Marlins would get back in their organization though, Michael Tucker (INF, mainly 1st & 3rd... but a true ALL Utility player), and of course it would be great to have Dennis Anderson (catcher, now playing with the Indy league team of Sioux Falls Canaries... his batting is still up and his fielding is awesome)

Extra Extra

Figured I would post up in the blog about the need for extras this weekend (Sat, 07.22.2006). We will be shooting a bar scene. No alcohol will be served however due to the earlyness of this shoot. For more info if you are interested please just email casting.daily@yahoo.com with "Extras needed" in the subject. We are doing it this way as to limit the number of people before the shoot day. Thanks!

PS: I have plenty of things to blog about, just not alot of time to blog with. But I promise I will be updating this more and I am trying to get Chris to start writting in his.
